As initially announced on Heartbeat, the Heartbeat Scheming Squirrel release is now available.
This release adds indie:// URL scheme support. So you can now share your indie friendship URLs on your own web site, etc. e.g.,
- Put this on your web site or send it to a friend in an email, text message, etc.:
indie://friend/aral
- If your friend clicks it (and they have Heartbeat installed), it will launch Heartbeat and send you a friend request.
I’ve asked Laura to design a button for this to make it easier to add to your web sites.
Also, this release tidies up your Heartbeat indie web site a little too.
Your what?
Oh yes, you know those Public posts you’re making — the ones that get aggregated on the Everyone timeline by Waystone — well, you can reach them outside of Heartbeat as well. They are being served via a local web server that Heartbeat runs for you.
To see your own site, visit the following link while Heartbeat is running:
http://localhost:42000
Your site is being broadcast over Bonjour.
First, enable Bonjour in Safari…
…and then you (or anyone else on your local network with Bonjour enabled in Safari) can easily get to your site.
Pretty neat, eh?
That’s the cool thing about indie tech, it includes indie web as part of the package (but it’s so much more).
To play with Heartbeat Scheming Squirrel, please head to the Heartbeat source code repository.
Enjoy!
